Intergroup Central Office Service Positions

Office Monitors

The Intergroup/Central Office is open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Saturday and is closed Sundays and statutory holidays.  Office monitor shifts are typically one day a week for the four hours the office is open.  During office hours volunteer monitors will handle various duties:

  • Answer telephones and respond to inquiries regarding A.A.
  • Refer families or friends of an alcoholic to the Al-Anon phone number
  • Facilitate 12-Step calls, which involves speaking to a person who wants help with their drinking and connecting them with a member of A.A.
  • Sell A.A. and Grapevine literature
  • Meet with people who walk in and have questions regarding A.A., or who wish to participate in A.A. fellowship
  • Complete photocopying when required
  • Open and close the office

Cell Phone Monitors

Alcoholism doesn’t stop after business hours, so neither does our need to provide support.  Cell phone monitors answer calls from specially designated cell phones to respond to A.A. inquiries and to facilitate 12-Step calls.  The Intergroup/Central Office phone is transferred to the appropriate cell phone during any hours the office is not open.  These shifts are filled by volunteer cell phone monitors and the shift hours/days are flexible; however, they generally break down to: 1) After hours week days, and 2) After hours weekends.

Elected Intergroup Service Positions

Intergroup/Central office supports all groups and meetings within District 43 and encompasses Aldergrove, Cloverdale, Fort Langley, and Langley.

Intergroup/Central offices usually have no authority on their own account; they derive it from the participating groups. Intergroup/Central offices are essentially A.A. service entities, “directly responsible to those they serve,” as described in Tradition Nine.  Local Intergroup Representatives reflect the groups’ conscience in the service centre operations.  In most communities, an Intergroup committee is set up to handle the administrative activities of the Central office. The Intergroup committee holds regularly scheduled meetings and deals with the general policies and plans.  Periodically, the Intergroup committee reports to group representatives on Intergroup office issues and accomplishments.  It is extremely important to keep a two-way flow of information going between the Intergroup office and the groups and meetings it serves.

The Intergroup representatives and committee members for District 43 meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm.  The meeting is currently a hybrid meeting and can be accessed on zoom at: Meeting ID: 876 677 4803; or it can be attended in person at 20449 Douglas Crescent, Langley, B.C.

The Intergroup Committee is comprised of:

  • Intergroup Representatives
  • Intergroup Chair Person
  • Alternate – Chair Person
  • Intergroup Literature Chair Person
  • Alternate – Literature Chair Person
  • Intergroup Secretary
  • Intergroup Treasurer
  • Intergroup Web Chair
  • Intergroup/Central Office Manager

It is important that all groups within the district have Intergroup Representatives to participate in this important service entity to respond to the A.A. Responsibility Statement:

I am responsible,
when anyone, anywhere,
reaches out for help,
I want the hand of A.A.
always to be there,
and for that
I am responsible.
